although the war

although the war in paradise
seems to have been lost
we can no longer burn the world
just to mourn the living

look upon our ruin
in the ageing mirrors
our flesh there does not suffer well
poisoned by the fallen light
and the chinese taxi fares

we dream until we fall asleep
in the lap of summer lawns
though we fled east
out of the woods
the Beast was far too slow
now we have to live as slaves
for the songs to call us master

this day our souls will rise once more
deep inside the sewer’s throat
that still rules over tokyo square
let us not forget ourselves
let us not remember
the wilderness beyond the stars
